TOLEDO, Ohio — A young child was injured after falling from a window of the YWCA building in downtown Toledo Sunday afternoon.
Toledo police as well as fire and rescue crews responded to the emergency shelter on Jefferson Avenue around 2 p.m. Officials found the child and took them to the hospital with injuries.
YWCA of Northwest Ohio president Lisa McDuffie said the child suffered a broken arm in the fall from a third floor window but is otherwise okay and expected to recover.
According to police reports, an adult was cooking while the child was playing in another room with siblings. The child "began kicking at a window, knocked the screen out and fell."
YWCA officials said Sunday the child fell from a third-story window. A Toledo Police Department report released Monday said the child fell four stories.
McDuffie said the emergency shelter continuously works to increase safety measures at the building.
