Organizations aim to keep Christmas lights out of landfills

For the second year in a row AIM Ecycling, Genoa Bank and Nature's Nursery have partnered up to hold a Christmas Light Recycle Drop-Off.

TOLEDO, Ohio — For the second year in a row AIM Ecycling, Genoa Bank and Nature's Nursery have partnered up to host a Christmas Light Recycle Drop-Off.

As you put up Christmas lights this year, and discover that some of them don't work anymore, you may be tempted to throw them in the garbage.

AIM Ecycling however, says the lights contain heavy metals which can pollute our water if tossed out with the trash.

For a little extra incentive to donate, Nature's Nursery will receive $1 for every per pound of lights that get turned in.

"Any of the money that comes back to Nature's Nursery for this is used for the care of the native wildlife that we rescue and rehabilitate each year," said Allison Aey, Executive Director of Nature's Nursery. "We're at just about over 3,600 animals this year and all those funds really help us to support the program and mission that we serve."

You can drop off lights at Genoa Bank locations in : Genoa, Maumee, Millbury, Oregon, Perrysburg/ Rossford, Port Clinton/ Catawba, and Sylvania.

Hours: Monday - Thursday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Saturday 9a.m. - 12 p.m.

The drop-off will be held until January 14th, 2024.
