Coast Guard Toledo chief officer relieved of duty

The U.S. Coast Guard has relieved Chief Petty Officer Robert Holm of his duties as the officer in charge.

TOLEDO, Ohio — U.S. Coast Guard officials have relieved the officer in charge of Coast Guard Station Toledo of his duties.

The Coast Guard announced Tuesday that Chief Petty Officer Robert Holm was removed from his position as chief officer on Jan. 25.

"Rear Admiral Jon Hickey, Commander, U.S. Coast Guard Ninth District, effected the permanent relief due to a loss of confidence in Holm's ability to command the station," according to a Tuesday news release from the Coast Guard.

Details of what led to Holm's removal were not included in the news release.

The news release said Holm was initially temporarily relieved of duty pending an investigation. That investigation found that Holm, "failed to meet personal qualification requirements and failed to properly administrate unit programs."

The Toledo station now is led on a temporary basis by Chief Warrant Officer Christopher Parker, according to the news release. The Coast Guard will later assign a permanent replacement.

Since being relieved of duty as the officer in charge, Holm has been temporarily assigned to Marine Safety Unit Toledo, according to the news release.

Coast Guard Station Toledo is responsible for about 200 square miles of Lake Erie's western basin from the Detroit River to Locus Point.

The Coast Guard is charged with search-and-rescue, maritime law enforcement, homeland security, military readiness and environmental response.
