HOLLAND, Ohio — A construction worker was hospitalized with serious injuries Wednesday night after a semi truck struck a construction lift they were in in Holland, according to a Lucas County Sheriff's Office deputy.
According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:05 p.m. when the semi truck struck the aerial lift of a utility truck which was parked in a closed construction site. The aerial lift was overhead of active traffic. The construction worker was inside the bucket seat of the aerial lift, and was ejected from it when the semi truck struck it.
Authorities closed the westbound lanes of Airport Highway following the incident near Orchard Center.
The worker was transported to the hospital with what authorities described in the press release as "serious injuries". However, a Lucas County deputy told WTOL 11 on scene Wednesday night the worker's condition was "stable".
According to OSHP, impaired driving does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
It is unknown at this time what caused the semi to hit the lift. The semi was seen with a large dent on it at the scene.
