TOLEDO, Ohio — According to a spokesperson from the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Craig Memorial Bridge in Toledo shut down during the morning of Tuesday, July 9.
ODOT states that an electrical communication issue is the root cause of the closure. According to ODOT, the bridge had opened to let a vessel through and when the bridge closed, the electric communication system did not communicate the full closure.
ODOT said in an update that an unidentified driver later drove through and damaged at least three of the gates on the bridge. According to ODOT, crews are on their way to the bridge and it cannot be reopened until the gates are repaired.
Currently, no significant traffic can be seen on the bridge, but motorists planning to travel over the bridge from I-280 should plan to take alternate routes.
