WILLARD, Ohio — The scene of a train derailment in Huron County is cleared Tuesday after multiple railcars were strewn across the landscape.
The Willard Fire and Rescue Department said they were dispatched to the derailment near the CSX railyard at 11:32 a.m. Sunday.
A spokesman for CSX called the incident a “minor derailment” involving four or five empty auto rack cars.
Willard Fire Chief Joe Reiderman said no rail cars hauling hazardous materials were involved in the derailment. However, two 1,000-gallon propane tanks that were used to heat switches were knocked off their placements and were leaking shortly after the incident.
No homes were evacuated as a result of the derailment.
Miller Rd. Section Line 30 and Townline 12 were all closed as crews worked to clean up the derailment.
The CSX Willard railyard is one of the major rail hubs in the state.
