Dead body retrieved from Maumee River in Toledo

Authorities responded to a water rescue at the National Museum of the Great Lakes shortly before noon on Saturday.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Authorities responded to a water rescue call off of the 1700 block of Marina Drive in east Toledo near the National Museum of the Great Lakes on Saturday morning. 

The call came in at 11:36 a.m. from a bystander in the area.

Upon arrival authorities found what appeared to be a body in the water. Water rescue was able to recover the body near the docks of the National Museum of the Great Lakes.

Responding officers on scene told WTOL 11 that the person was considered dead by the time they were retrieved from the water.

The identity of the body and cause of death are not yet known.
