Prosecutor declines to charge Delta principal who told student to remove pants during search

An internal investigation also found no wrongdoing, the district said earlier this month.
According to Delta police, the case is still pending review by the prosecutor's office.

DELTA, Ohio — The principal of a Fulton County high school will not face criminal charges in an October incident in which he told a student to remove his pants during a search, Delta police told WTOL 11.

The Village of Delta prosecutor declined to prosecute Doug Ford, the principal of Pike-Delta-York High School. Ford was also cleared of any wrongdoing during an internal investigation conducted by the high school.

The incident was drawn to public attention when the student's mother, Tiffany Sargent said her freshman son was brought into the principal's office for having a cellphone out in class. Sargent said her son hid his phone in his waistband and, after it was picked up by a metal detecting wand, Ford told him to remove his pants.

Her son complied and his phone was revealed. Sargent argued her son should have never been asked to remove his pants without her or another adult in the room.
