MONROE COUNTY, Mich. — A deputy with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office helped rescue a person from a pond after a crash around midnight Tuesday in Summerfield Township.
The sheriff's office said they received a 911 call from a resident on Lulu Road near S. County Line Highway at 12:04 a.m. reporting hearing an unknown person yelling for help from the back of their property near a pond.
Deputy Shawna Hester arrived at the location and saw a male in the water approximately 20 feet offshore struggling to stay afloat.
The sheriff's office said Deputy Hester entered the water, and with the help of the flotation device provided by the homeowner, was able to bring the person to shore where he was taken to the hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown.
It was later determined that a vehicle was involved and "fresh tracks" were located coming from a field to the north directly into the pond, according to the sheriff's office.
A dive team later recovered an unoccupied vehicle from the pond. The crash and incident remain under investigation, the sheriff's office said.
