LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. — A teen is in custody following a pursuit in Lenawee County that involved a deputy shooting at a vehicle on Wednesday night.
Around 10:41 p.m., a deputy with the Lenawee County Sheriff's Office was in the area of M-50 near Billmyer Highway when they saw an SUV driving at a high speed and driving in a reckless manner, according to the sheriff's office.
After they tried to pull the vehicle over, the 16-year-old driver fled and turned off their headlights.
As the pursuit continued to Ridgeway Township and Macon Township, the sheriff's office attempted to lay down stop sticks at Holloway Road and Britton Highway, but the driver avoided the spike strips, turned off their headlights again and drove off the road.
The sheriff's office said the car began driving directly at a deputy and that's when they fired two shots at the vehicle, striking only the vehicle and not the driver.
The chase continued into Monroe County before the suspect eventually stopped. The driver was identified as a 16-year-old from Macon Township.
The deputy who fired their gun was placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
