TOLEDO, Ohio — Sarah Meiring, a resident at the Marina Lofts in east Toledo, posted a video on Facebook of her doorbell camera being snatched off her door by a non-resident.
The video showed the man approaching the camera thinking someone was watching him. He then snatches it off the door before throwing it into the street.
Meiring said the incident occurred around 3 a.m. The following morning, her husband found the camera in the street and the couple went to see what happened and that's when they saw the footage.
"I purchased the doorbell and it didn't even last a month until it got 'yeeted' into the street," Meiring said.
Meiring said she filed a police report and they've identified the man but they have not pressed charges.
She said the whole situation leaves her feeling a bit uneasy. Meiring said the reason for purchasing this camera was to prevent future packages from being stolen after a $400 package was taken from her doorstep before she got the camera.
Meiring is not the only resident at the complex to have a package stolen from their door.
Marina Lofts resident Andrew Bill said he had a package stolen from outside his door in the same month as Meiring.
"It's frustrating regardless," Bill said. "You don't want your stuff to get stolen and you shouldn't have to worry that if they deliver it to your porch where you know it goes, that someone's going to come by and take it."
Riley Smith, another resident, said he caught a person on his doorbell camera stealing a package from his door in broad daylight. While he did not file a police report, he said it looked like a food delivery driver took it.
The Toledo Police Department said in situations like these, avoid confrontation but also make sure to file a police report providing as much description and information as possible.
WTOL 11 attempted to reach out to the security company at the Marina Lofts, but they did not respond.
