What would you like to see in downtown Toledo?

ConnecToledo helped draft downtown Toledo's development plan in 2017, spurring economic growth substantially. Now, the public is encouraged to contribute new ideas.

TOLEDO, Ohio — It's been six years since downtown Toledo's original master plan for development was completed. As the area sees growth, city organizations are asking the public to help decide what's next.

Since the original plan of 2017 was introduced, The Glass City Riverwalk started, the convention center was updated and overall efforts to keep the city cleaner went into effect.

Paul Toth, president of ConnecToledo, said the group did not want the plan to just sit on the shelf after checking off some accomplishments, which is why they want to continue the growth.

While assistance from the county and city has helped, Toth said spreading the word to residents is the most important part since they are the people who know the city and the investments that have been made in it.

"It's north of $700 million, and if we added up all the little investments people made it's probably pushing closer to a billion dollars, which is pretty impressive, Toth said.

ConnecToledo has made an online survey, an interactive map to pin specific thoughts on specific locations and an idea wall, which acts like a post-it note on a digital wall where people can see other people's ideas.

Casey Werley, who works at Tony Packo's in downtown Toledo, said he's happy about the growth he has seen over the years in the city, but would like to see "more community-focused events that can really encompass the different ethnic heritages that Toledo represents."
