Man killed after crashing into horse, utility pole in Sandusky County

Ohio State Highway Patrol said the 37-year-old was taken by air ambulance to the hospital after he struck the horse in the roadway before hitting a utility pole.

SANDUSKY COUNTY, Ohio — A man was killed after crashing into a horse and then a utility pole in Sandusky County Thursday morning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Adam Madaras, 37, of Helena, was traveling northbound on County Road 32 near County Road 85 in Madison Township around 5:42 a.m. when he struck a horse in the roadway. OSHP said Madaras then traveled off the right side of the roadway and hit a utility pole.

The driver was taken by air ambulance to the hospital where he later died. According to OSHP, Madaras was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
