PAULDING COUNTY, Ohio — A driver struck a juvenile student crossing a rural road to get onto a school bus Monday morning in Paulding County, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The juvenile, whose age is not provided, the driver who hit them and two students on the school bus were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, OSHP said.

The bus was stopped in the southbound lane of County Road 209 about eight miles south of Defiance while picking up students around 7:30 a.m. with its red lights flashing. Jennifer Burgei, 26, of Cloverdale, was driving northbound on the road, did not yield to the stopped bus and hit the juvenile, according to OSHP.

After hitting the juvenile, Burgei then hit the bus and drove off the road.

The crash is under investigation, according to OSHP. It is unclear at this time if Burgei will face any charges.
