TPD: Driver deceased after hitting tree in south Toledo

The crash happened on Glendale Avenue about half a mile east of the intersection with Eastgate Road. ​Toledo police said the car caught fire.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Editor's note: The following story has been updated to reflect new information made available in a Toledo police report. 

One person has died of their injuries after their vehicle struck a tree in south Toledo Friday night, according to a police report. 

Toledo police claimed 23-year-old Shayna Hill was traveling westbound on Glendale Avenue at approximately 10:30 p.m. when the vehicle went off the roadway at the intersection of Fallbrook Court. The vehicle continued westbound through the grass between the roadway and sidewalk before striking a tree in the front yard of a home in the 1600 block of Fallbrook, before it ultimately came to rest. 

Hill was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to those injuries, police said. 

Toledo police told WTOL 11 at the scene that the car caught fire.

The cause of the crash is unknown.
