Elmwood Local Schools superintendent says threat from student 'looks like misunderstanding'

A student's post on Snapchat was thought to be a threat, but the superintendent said it "seems like the old game of telephone and each version the story grew."

WOOD COUNTY, Ohio — A student's post to Snapchat was initially thought to be a threat involving the Elmwood Local Schools District, but as of Tuesday evening, it now "does not seem like the student made a threat," Superintendent Tony Borton said.

"Initially it looks like that this was a misunderstanding," Borton said. "Seems like the old game of telephone and each version the story grew."

The student was not yet enrolled in the district, but was in the process of transferring to Elmwood Middle School, Borton said.

In a message prior to Borton's update that the situation seems to be a misunderstanding, he said the Wood County Sheriff's Office is investigating and is currently working to speak with the student.

Borton also said he notified parents that classes will continue as scheduled tomorrow and Elmwood will have additional security, in a message prior to the update.
