Person dies of injuries after two-vehicle crash in south Toledo

The crash occurred on Oct. 4, and the passenger died on Oct. 9.

TOLEDO, Ohio — One person died of injures suffered in a south Toledo crash that occurred on Oct. 4. 

According to a Toledo police report issued Friday, 35-year-old Juan Espinosa died Wednesday of injuries suffered in a crash that occurred on Oct. 4. 

Police said the two-vehicle crash occurred when one vehicle was traveling northbound on South Avenue at approximately 10 p.m. A second vehicle, in which Espinosa was a passenger, was traveling southbound on South Avenue and went left of center. 

The second vehicle struck the first on South Avenue between I-75 and Kuhlman Drive. The vehicle then struck a curb and a light pole, before coming to rest in a ditch, police said in the report. 

Espinosa was pronounced dead nearly a week later on Wednesday, Oct. 9. No one else was injured or killed in the crash. Espinosa was listed as not having worn a safety belt. 

The driver of the second vehicle was listed as being impaired by "drugs/alcohol" and the crash involved "speed/reckless" driving, according to the report. The driver was not injured, and no charges are known to have been filed, according to Toledo Municipal Court records.

The driver and passenger of the first vehicle were not injured, according to the police report.
