WEST UNITY, Ohio — One person died in a crash on the Ohio Turnpike Friday morning, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers from the Swanton Post of the patrol responded to a single-vehicle crash near the milepost 20 in the village of West Unity in Williams County at approximately 8:04 a.m. Authorities said a 2002 Toyota RAV 4 was traveling westbound on I-80 when it exited the left side of the roadway and struck a guardrail. The vehicle then re-entered the roadway and struck another guardrail, ejecting the vehicle's driver and only occupant.

The driver was transported by airlift to the hospital where they died of their injuries. Authorities withheld the identity of the driver pending family notification. According to OSHP, alcohol and drug use are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Westbound lanes of I-80 were closed near the site of the crash for approximately 55 minutes while authorities investigated.
