FAYETTE, Ohio —
The mother of two people killed in a Saturday morning house fire in the village of Fayette is remembering their lives.
Tyler Tussing, 19; Katie Tussing, 18; and Logan Tussing, 16, were staying at their father's house when a fire broke out. Logan escaped by jumping from a second-story window.
Tyler and Katie were not able to make it out in time.
Logan was hospitalized with injuries and has since been released.
The State Fire Marshal believes the fire broke out on the first floor and reported there were no working smoke detectors inside the home on North Fayette Street.
On Monday, the victims' mother, Jennifer Nine, stopped by Fayette Church of the Nazarene where neighbors were making blankets and collecting donations for her and the rest of her family.
"It means so much," she said. "We appreciate everything."
Nine says Tyler will be remembered for his contagious personality.
"Tyler was just the goofiest, best person to be around," she said.
Katie, who just graduated from high school in May, was a friend to all.
"Katie was the best friend you could have," Nine said.
Becky Short, a volunteer with the church, said Tyler, Katie, and Logan's friends are driving the efforts to bring the town together during the difficult time.
"It puts my faith back in humanity and in the human race," she said.
A funeral service is being held on Friday at Eagle Marry Funeral Home on West Main Street. The public is invited to attend from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A private service will follow.
If you would like to donate, a GoFundMe has been set up.
Physical donations such as towels, clothes and shoes can be dropped off at Fayette Church of the Nazarene at 511 S. Fayette St. in Fayette.
