Findlay bicyclist dies after falling into roadway, being struck by vehicle, police say

The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

FINDLAY, Ohio — A person died Wednesday morning after falling off a bicycle and into an oncoming vehicle's path, Findlay police said. 

According to a press release from the Findlay Police Department, Dennis McCracken, 85, was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk in the 700 block of West Trenton Avenue at approximately 9:42 a.m. Police said in the report that McCracken lost control of the bicycle and fell into the eastbound lanes of traffic in the roadway. 

Police said an approaching vehicle was unable to avoid McCracken, who was still in the roadway, and struck McCracken. 

Authorities arrived on scene and began rendering aid to McCracken, who was then taken to the hospital. McCracken was later pronounced deceased, police said in the report. 

According to the press release from police, McCracken did succumb to injuries suffered in the incident, but the official cause of death is pending investigation by a coroner. 

No citations were issued in the incident, police said in the report.
