FINDLAY, Ohio — City of Findlay officials announced that complaints of an odor issue have tapered off and the issue is believed to have "self-corrected."

The city and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency began to receive complaints near the end of 2023 and early 2024 of an odor described as mildew, chemicals and sewer gas in the area of Tall Timbers Industrial Park.

According to a press release from the Findlay Fire Department, the city partnered with a local company to measure the air quality at locations within the industrial park and downwind. FFD said that while the investigation did not pinpoint one source of the odor, it confirmed that air quality was not affected and it remained safe.

The EPA's investigation also did not confirm an individual source of the odor, but found at one location in the industrial park that a fluid used during manufacturing "is subject to a mildew-type process," the fire department said.

According to the FFD, measurements of the fluid along with odor complaints "revealed a slight increase in bioactivity within the waste fluid."

The fluid was treated and measurements returned to normal, resulting in odor complaints tapering off. Officials said there have been no complaints since approximately early February.
