TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police and fire crews were on the scene of a crash and fire in west Toledo Monday morning, in an incident that remains under investigation.
Authorities responded to a building in the 1900 block of West Sylvania Avenue around 5:40 a.m. regarding a crash. A Ford truck had crashed into the former site of the Rib Shack and a fire had started. The damage to the building was extensive, but after examining the safety of the building's foundation, crews were cleared to remove the truck.
Police told WTOL 11 at the scene the driver is believed to have fled the crash. An arson investigator was dispatched to the scene. Authorities said the fire remains under investigation, but police did not believe the crash caused the fire and said the fire likely was ignited after the crash.
