TIFFIN, Ohio — The Tiffin Service Cab building, 16 E. Perry St., suffered serious damage during a fire Tuesday.
Tiffin Fire Chief Rob Chappell said no injuries were reported.
Chappell told WTOL 11 Wednesday that 50 firefighters from four departments worked to control the blaze Tuesday afternoon. Crews were on the scene for more than nine hours, the chief said.
The fire forced authorities to close portions of Perry and Market streets.
The fire began shortly after noon Tuesday when someone working on a vehicle in the building hit the vehicle's fuel tank, igniting the fire, the chief said. The fire spread quickly through the building, Chappell said.
The back of the building, where the business is located, suffered less damage than the front of the building, which has rental apartments. Only one of the four units is occupied, Chappell said. That tenant was not home at the time of the blaze, the chief said.
