Fire in Pettisville early Wednesday engulfs auto shop, apartment above

The incident happened at D3 Automotive on West Summit Street in Pettisville. One male got out safely.

PETTISVILLE, Ohio — A huge fire early Wednesday destroyed an auto repair shop, leaving one person without a place to stay.

This happened around 1:30 a.m. at D3 Automotive on West Summit Street in Pettisville. Smoke and heavy fire quickly consumed both the shop and an upstairs apartment. One male got out safely but declined assistance from the Red Cross.

Archbold German Township Fire Chief Dave Davis spoke to WTOL 11 on the scene.

“It was an automotive shop so there were cars inside, there were cars on the south side of the building right up against the building… multiple cars on that side were damaged," said Chief Davis. "We’re working on getting those cars towed away to a safe location so we can get the excavator in to tear the building apart.”

Nearby neighbors were evacuated from their homes due to the intensity of the blaze. Electricity to the entire village had been temporarily shut off but has since been restored.

Multiple agencies assisted in fighting this fire. The cause is unknown at this time.
