TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo Fire and Rescue Department firefighters were called to a fire just south of the ‘lost peninsula’ in Point Place on Sunday evening.
Firefighters were called to an address on 149th Street around 5 p.m.
When they arrived, they found nothing on the property.
When they relocated to the Lost Peninsula in Monroe County however, crews spotted a fire in the wooded area behind the Lost Peninsula Marina on the Ohio side of the border.
TFRD says leaves, tree, branches and grass were on fire stretching from near the shore at Carland Beach to “at least a couple hundred yards” into the woods.
According to TFRD, over 200 feet of hose was needed to reach the blaze.
Wind from the lakeshore also helped to spread the fire.
TFRD says crews had to be cautious of trees falling during the fire after at least one tree fell.
No structures were involved and damage was isolated to the wooded area; mostly burnt tree limbs and grass.
No one was injured.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
