TOLEDO, Ohio — With forecasted high winds in our area for Election Day, FirstEnergy and Consumers Energy said they are prepared to keep polls up and running for people to cast their votes.
The WTOL 11 weather team said wind gusts will be near 30 to 40 mph in our area, but FirstEnergy said they don't anticipate weather-related disruptions on Tuesday.
"FirstEnergy is committed to supporting our communities' ability to vote by ensuring that power continues to flow safely and reliably to election facilities and polling sites," a FirstEnergy spokesperson said.
According to FirstEnergy, its electric system is designed to operate in all types of weather conditions. The company said they have made special preparations to have crews positioned near polling locations in case issues arise.
"We will have all hands on deck and ready to respond if needed," FirstEnergy said.
Consumers Energy in Michigan said they have crews ready to respond overnight and through Election Day on Tuesday if power outages occur due to wind gusts.
“We understand the importance of keeping the power on, particularly Tuesday as Michiganders finish casting their ballots in this election,” Chris Laird, Consumers Energy’s vice president of electric distribution said. “Our crews are ready for immediate dispatch, and we’ll prioritize any situation that could affect the voting process.”
