Ohio Governor Mike DeWine ordered the lowering of all US and state of Ohio flags Tuesday in honor of Napoleon police officer Tyler Murrey, who died in the line of duty on Saturday.
According to a press release from the Governor's office, the flags will be lowered to half-staff on all public building and grounds throughout Henry county, the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center and the Rhodes State Office Tower. The flags will remain at half mast until sunset on the day of Murrey's funeral, the governor's office said.
Other public buildings and grounds in Ohio may also fly both flags at half-staff during the same time period at their discretion, DeWine's office said in the press release.
Murrey died in the line of duty on Saturday, according to a statement from Napoleon Police Chief Edward Legg. Murrey had been with the department since 2018, the statement said.
The statement did not provide further information on Murrey's death. WTOL 11 reached out to the Henry County Coroner's office for details as to the cause of death. Murrey's autopsy has not been released.
Multiple law enforcement and emergency agencies sent out condolences to the department, including the Fulton County Sheriff, Toledo Firefighters Local 92 and the Lucas County Sheriff's office.
