FOSTORIA, Ohio — The City of Fostoria and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources are planning to make reservoir changes beginning next week.
The city announced on Friday that beginning during the week of Feb. 19, they will be converting reservoir one into a recreational reservoir and reservoir four will be a recreational wetlands area. The city said that reservoirs one and four will be permanently disconnected from the water supply system.
According to the city, reservoirs five and six will be offline from the water supply during the week and they will use reservoirs two and three for raw water supply. Pumps will be placed at reservoirs two and three to "ensure that the water supply is sufficient."
"During the week, the Fostoria water treatment plant will be making adjustments to the water as needed to provide safe drinking water to the city's residents," the city said in a press release.
The city added that upon completion of stage one of this project, all of Fostoria's water supply will come from reservoirs five and six.
According to the city, this is stage one of converting reservoir four into a wetlands area, adding that there will be further work creating pools and a stream connecting them to collect the water from the Portage River in a rainfall event.
The city said that upon completion of stage one of this project, all of Fostoria's water supply will come from reservoirs five and six.
The cost of creating the recreational wetland area is being funded by a grant from ODNR, the city said.
