FREMONT, Ohio — Law enforcement are investigating a cyber security incident at Fremont City Schools.
According to a statement from superintendent Jon Detweiler on the district's social media page Wednesday, school leaders learned Sunday evening the district's computer network had been accessed by an unauthorized party.
District leaders contacted the Fremont Police Department, who connected the school with the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, Detweiler said. The Ohio Cyber Reserves, who operate out of the Ohio National Guard, were also called upon to investigate the incident on-site.
While investigating, officials have shut down the district's computer capabilities; they said they were working to bring the system back online safely and securely under the direction of the Ohio Cyber Reserves.
Detweiler assured families in the post that all students and safe were safe.
