Fulton County Fair offers food, fun and a unique opportunity for family time

For one family, volunteering at the fair is an opportunity to serve the community and spend quality time together.

WAUSEON, Ohio — The 166th Fulton County Fair is up and running in Wauseon, and one of its youngest volunteers is excited to serve up delicious milkshakes and spend quality time with multiple other family members who also volunteer.

Sophia Fields is a 14-year-old from Liberty Center and says she's happy to volunteer at the fair.

"You get to bless so many people and it's so fun too. You get to meet so many new people and it's just an incredible opportunity," she said. "It means a lot and I put a lot of hard work and dedication into it. it's just a great opportunity that I get."

Sophia says her family supports her in volunteering. Her grandmother, Doris Piercefield, has been volunteering with the Museum of Fulton County for the last five years.

Piercefield said the fun of volunteering is twofold: she gets to enjoy serving the community and spend quality time with family.

"I always have believed that if you volunteer or you do something with the fair that you feel like you're a part of that family. It makes it even more special," she said.

Piercefield's son, Andrew, also volunteers.

"We give back every year on our business side of things," he said. "Coming out and doing this, it's no problem."

Sophia says it warms her heart to not only be working with family but also helping out the community.

"I love being with my family and it's really great opportunity that we can do this big volunteer opportunity with family," she said. "We're all connected and it's a great way to help out people and bless the community."
