Which northwest Ohio businesses, facilities are affected by the global tech outage?

From airports to the BMV, here are the local affects of the global tech outage.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A widespread technology outage caused by a technical issue at CrowdStrike impacted organizations and businesses around the globe Friday morning. CrowdStrike, a cyber security firm, said they are working to remedy the issue, which they said was not caused by a security incident or cyberattack. However, its affects are still being felt locally in northwest Ohio.

Here is a running list of businesses, facilities and organizations WTOL 11 has confirmed are and are not affected by the outage. This list will be updated as more information becomes available:

Affected:

Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW): Flight delays and cancellations. Check your flight status before heading to the airport. Some operations have begun to return to normal. 

Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport: As of 8:30 a.m., systems were still down at Toledo Express Airport. In a social media update at approximately 11 a.m., the airport said passengers should check with Allegiant for the latest information regarding flight status. As of 1 p.m., Allegiant's website is still down. 

According to Flightradar24, an application that tracks flights around the world, two flights recently left Toledo Express: a private plane that departed the airport around 12:30 p.m. and a Kent State University-owned plane that departed Toledo around noon. 

Only one aircraft is currently scheduled inbound at Toledo Express, according to Flightradar24: a flight traveling from El Paso. It is scheduled to arrive at approximately 4 p.m.

Ohio Turnpike: Customers trying to connect to the E-ZPass website may experience difficulties due to the outage, the Turnpike said in a social media post. They said they are working with third-party services and hope to resolve it quickly. The Turnpike remains operational.

Social Security offices: A Social Security Administration spokesperson said their offices would be closed Friday due to the outages.

Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles: In a social media post Friday morning, the BMV said many of its services may not be available.

Mercy Health: A spokesperson from the healthcare company said they were minimally impacted, and are employing standard backup procedures to ensure patient care is uninterrupted.

Republic Services: City of Toledo spokesperson Rachel Hart said the waste collection company is experiencing delays and that recycling collection will not happen at the outlined location in the Bancroft Hills and Old Orchard neighborhood below until Saturday.

Ohio Department of Transportation: A department spokesperson said ODOT's internal systems are broken, meaning its website and traffic cameras are down.

Oregon Schools enrollment: In a message to parents, Oregon City Schools said their returning registration web application, which launched at midnight, is completely inaccessible as of Friday morning. The school district said it would send a notification to parents via email when enrollment is back up and running.

Lucas County offices: The court of clerks told WTOL 11 the court house is operational, but unable to accept credit card payments as of 10 a.m. Auto title offices and deputy registrars are also affected and not operational. Lucas County Clerk of Courts J. Bernie Quilter closed all auto title offices at 1 p.m. Friday due to the outage.

Lucas County Job and Family Services and Lucas County Child Support Enforcement Agency services are also unavailable Friday. Engineers are working to resolve the issue, the agencies said. Anyone with a scheduled JFS or CSEA agency who cannot complete it due to the outage should call JFS at 844-640-6446 next week between 8 a.m. and noon or or CSEA next week at 419-213-3001 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency: Phone and online chat services are currently limited, Michigan UIA said. However, help is still available online or in-person using the Michigan Web Account Manager, which was not affected by the outage.

Columbia Gas: The utility company sent emails to its customers Friday that its website and mobile app were having issues due to the outage. Anyone who needs assistance should call the emergency line is available 24/7 at 1-800-344-4077. If you can't report an emergency to Columbia Gas, you should call 911 from a safe place, the company said.

Not affected

Toledo police: A TPD spokesperson said they are not aware of any outages pertaining to their systems.

ProMedica: A ProMedica spokesperson told WTOL 11 they were "not directly impacted" by the issue, and had no care impacts to report. They said they would continue to monitor their systems closely. 

Lucas County Commissioners Office: This office is not affected. Officials told WTOL 11 they would check to see if any other county operations were impacted.

University of Toledo Medical Center: A spokesperson said UTMC is not a client of CrowdStrike, and therefore the facility was unaffected by the outage.

Recovered

Toledo Clinic: The Toledo Clinic, which earlier reported problems and asked patients to call their physicians' offices directly, now says it is 100% operational.
