GM tentative agreement approved by UAW national leadership, will now go to union members for vote

A series of informational meetings for UAW Local 14 members will be held Monday, with the ratification vote Nov. 12-13, UAW Local 14 President Tony Totty said.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Another milestone was reached in the contract negotiations between the United Auto Workers and General Motors on Friday.

The UAW National GM Council voted on the proposed tentative agreement with GM on Friday. The proposed contract was approved and it will be presented to the entire membership in the coming days, UAW Local 14 President Tony Totty told WTOL 11.

Local 14 members will have informational meetings Monday regarding the UAW/GM National agreement and there will be a ratification vote starting the night of Nov. 12 and ending Nov. 13 at 11 p.m.

UAW President Shawn Fain announced the end to the strike in a video earlier this week along with the tentative agreement with GM. Members were on the picket line for more than 40 days.

"We wholeheartedly believe our strike squeezed every last dime out of General Motors," Fain said in the announcement.

A large portion of Local 14 members work at Toledo Propulsion Systems. Though the facility wasn't on strike, Totty said the members technically were as they were getting strike assistance.

Totty said this agreement had a big effect on his members.

"It's substantial raises for everybody," Totty said. "And that's what we've been demanding."
