FINDLAY, Ohio — Though it won't be as warm this weekend as it was Wednesday, Saturday marks the unofficial start to garage sale season in Findlay.
It's a little early for Brinkman's Greenhouse on Sandusky Street in Findlay to be filled with flowers.
So instead, it's filled to the brim with donated items for the Christian Clearing House annual benefit garage sale.
Tammy Stahl, the executive director of Christian Clearing House, said all proceeds raised will help the CCH in its primary mission of providing emergency financial assistance to anyone in Hancock County.
Whether it's rent, utilities, medical bills, transportation, or groceries, CCH helps an average of 600 families a month.
"We want them to be self-sustaining, we want them to be able to do things on their own," Stahl said. "But when a bag of groceries is $50 to $75 at the grocery store and their income has not increased, that's when we really come in."
With only two members on staff, so much of the work done by the Christian Clearing House is done by volunteers, such as setting up for this weekend's garage sale.
A few of them sign up after coming to CCH for help.
"Very appreciative of our help and in turn, they go and they try to help others because they've been helped too," volunteer Linda Gallant said.
As of Wednesday afternoon, there were still a few presale tickets available for the Velvet Chandelier event on Thursday for early access to all of the garage sale goodies on display.
"Tomorrow night between 4 and 6, you can beat the crowd and shop in a little bit more quiet, confined area as to the busyness we'll have on the weekend," Stahl said.
The Christian Clearing House annual benefit garage sale runs Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Brinkman's Greenhouse.
