One man takes matters into his own hands, fills west Michigan city's infamous pothole

While the jokes were funny, many saw the pothole as a real danger. One man decided to take care of the pothole himself.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — It's the end of an era for Grand Haven, Michigan as the viral pothole just off North Beacon Boulevard has been filled.

Grand Haven resident Corey Denny posted a photo on the Grand Haven Informed Facebook page showing a recliner chair which had been placed in the massive pothole.

"This is a little… This is outrageous," said Denny. "I went to Applebee's to go to lunch yesterday. And I drove past it. And obviously, you can't really miss it. And I just thought it was funny. And everyone was talking about it there. And I was like, I'm just going to take a picture in it and posted to Grand Haven Informed and it just blew up a little bit.”

Denny's post quickly took off, gathering tons of reactions and comments. It even inspired others to visit the pothole and take photos of their own.

While the jokes were funny, they also brought to light what many saw as a real danger. Eventually, the pothole even got the attention of the city

Grand Haven's Director of Public Works Derek Gajdos said the pothole was on a private road, which meant the property owner was responsible.

Bode Wilson decided to take on the responsibility of filling the pothole himself. Wilson explained he saw the pothole on Facebook.

"It was like, an issue in the community," Wilson said. "I've lived here my whole life and I just saw that it was, everybody was making a ruckus about it. So I figured I would come out here and fix it."

Wilson said he started a property service company last year, BCubed_PropertyServices. He explained that he does that work over the summer as he is also currently in college.

"We came out here and got it fixed," Wilson said. "Big potholes like that can cost you a lot of money."
