SWANTON, Ohio — Two men died following crash in Swanton early Saturday morning, just after midnight.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol 46-year-old, Ronald Dempsey, drove a semi eastbound on I-80 when 45-year-old, Jean Moise, drove a semi westbound on I-80 along with 59-year-old passenger Wilson Jeune. Jean Moise crossed the median causing the two semis to collide head on. When crashing, both trucks traveled off of the southside of the turnpike.
OSHP said Wilson Jeune was pronounced dead at the scene, and Ronald Dempsey later died after being transported to a local medical center.
The crash remains under investigation.
This double-fatal accident continues the deadliest year experienced on the Ohio Turnpike in the last 30 years. There have now been 19 fatalities on the turnpike in 2024, the most since 1994.
Earlier this year, another turnpike crash in Swanton involving semi trucks occurred, killing four people.
