TOLEDO, Ohio — A local brewery announced its impending closure in a Facebook post Wednesday.

According to the social media post, HEAVY Beer Company will permanently close on Sunday, Dec. 15. The business did not give a reason for its closure, but thanked its customers and staff for having supported the brewery.

"From the beginning, HEAVY has been about more than just beer—it’s been about celebrating whatever fuels your passion," the company wrote in the post. "It’s been about exploring the beauty of our region, building a strong community of breweries and beer lovers, and creating spaces where people can come together in a truly special way."

HEAVY operates a location - HEAVY Underground - in the Vistula District.

HEAVY also ran the brewery half of Metroparks Toledo's Wheelhouse at Oak Openings Preserve in collaboration with Black Kite Coffee.

It also had plans to open up a downtown location, called "HEAVY Village", which it announced in 2023.

A Metroparks Toledo spokesperson told WTOL 11 it will seek a new vendor to operate the Wheelhouse. The Wheelhouse will remain open until Sunday, when it closes for the winter. Metroparks Toledo plans to reopen in the spring with the new operator.

"We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way—our customers, team members, collaborators, and the incredible community of breweries we’ve had the honor of working alongside," the business continued in the post. "Your enthusiasm and encouragement have fueled every pour, every idea, and every moment at HEAVY.

"We invite you to join us before December 15 to celebrate everything HEAVY has meant to all of us. Let’s raise a glass—to lost love, cherished memories, and the adventures yet to come."
