Helping Hands of St. Louis to hold annual Winter Coat Fest Saturday

Helping Hands of St. Louis said volunteers are needed Thursday and Friday to sort and hang coats, and are needed for the event on Saturday.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Helping Hands of St. Louis in east Toledo will be holding its annual Winter Coat Fest Saturday, Oct. 19, to help those in the community gear up for the colder months ahead.

“Last year we provided nearly 800 winter coats to individuals, along with hats, gloves and winter boots,” Sue Shrewsbery, director of Helping Hands of St. Louis said. “Anyone in need is welcome."

The event goes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Helping Hands of St. Louis Clothing Center, located at 443 Sixth Street.

Helping Hands of St. Louis said donations still needed include warm gloves for all ages, men's and women's XL and plus-sized winter coats, children's coats, gently used winter boots, particularly men's sizes 10 and up, warm men's socks, and warm hats for men, women and children.

Volunteers are also needed Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to sort and hang coats, and at least 15 volunteers are needed during Saturday's event from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Contact Catholic Charities volunteer coordinator Byron Wynn at 419-318-7016 or email bwynn@toledodiocese.org if you're interested.

Helping Hands of St. Louis said Winter Coat Fest donations are being accepted through Thursday, Oct. 17 and will resume on Monday, Oct. 21.
