Holland Branch Library given 'all clear' after suspicious package prompts evacuation

A spokesperson for the Toledo Lucas County Public Library said the suspicious package was found on a bookshelf.

HOLLAND, Ohio — The Holland Branch Library has been given the "all clear" after it was evacuated Wednesday evening when a suspicious package was found on a bookshelf, a spokesperson for the Toledo Lucas County Public Library told WTOL 11.

The spokesperson said staff found the package at the location on South McCord Road and followed regular safety protocol by evacuating the building and contacting police.

The Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad was called out to the scene and determined someone placed a battery with wires attached onto a book about explosives on a display table.

The bomb squad said they "diagnosed the item and manually cleared the book" and that no explosives were located.

In addition to the bomb squad, Toledo Police Department, Lucas County Sheriff's Office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were at the scene, which is still under investigation by the Holland Police Department.

The library did not reopen Wednesday night but resumed normal hours Thursday, the TLCHD spokesperson said.
