WOOD COUNTY, Ohio — Authorities captured an armed suspect just after midnight Friday following a lengthy search in Rossford near I-75 that began Thursday night.
The suspect was later identified as Darryl Elston, 37, of Toledo. He was arraigned in Perrysburg Municipal Court on charges of failure to comply with order or signal of police officer, having weapons while under disability, receiving stolen property, and tampering with evidence.
Elston also faces charges in Toledo Municipal Court of failure to comply and receiving stolen property. His total current bond was set at $75,000. He is scheduled to appear in Perrysburg Municipal Court on July 18.
Lt. Craig Revill with Rossford police said Toledo police notified them that they were pursuing a stolen vehicle. RPD said they picked up the suspect vehicle on FLOCK cameras, located the vehicle in the city and began a pursuit on Lime City Road heading southbound.
Rossford police said the suspect encountered the closed overpass on Lime City Road and bailed from the vehicle with a handgun.
RPD said the suspect entered into nearby woods just south of Buck Road on the east side of I-75. Authorities set up a perimeter and I-75 at Buck Road was closed in both directions as the authorities searched for the "armed and dangerous" suspect.
Revill said the Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted in the search of a large wooded area with a helicopter.
