Skating starts at Glass City Metropark's ice skating ribbon Friday

The Ribbon begins its first full season of skating Friday.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Are you ready to lace up your skates? The first full ice-skating session for The Ribbon at Glass City Metropark begins Friday.

The 1,000-foot-long ice-skating trail at the park was open for a brief preview in February -- before Glass City Metropark opened later in the spring -- and was a huge hit with local skaters.

The ice is maintained by an underground cooling system and smoothed by a Zamboni machine.

This weekend's season-opening celebration will offer five skating sessions each day Friday through Sunday: 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5p.m. and 7 p.m.. Advance reservations on the website are highly recommended

In honor of Veterans Day, veterans and active duty members of the military will be admitted free Friday, Saturday and Sunday by showing their veterans or military ID at the admission window, or by emailing rink.management@metroparkstoledo.com to reserve a timeslot.

The Ribbon will be open daily through Feb. 19 except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Timeslots vary by day and are listed on the website. Wednesdays are family days geared toward children, with limited reservations.

Tickets are on sale now for the season at MetroparksToledo.com/TheRibbon. Admission for 90-minute timeslots is $10 for adults, $8 for children 4 to 12 and seniors 65 and over. Children 3 and younger are free. Skate rental is included at no additional charge, or visitors can bring their own skates.
