Infant survives fatal crash

The victim was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

HURON COUNTY, Ohio — Police say one person is dead following a fatal, two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Lyme Township, Huron County.

28-year-old Lacey Gerich of Norwalk was driving a blue 2016 Hyundai Tucson of Section Line 30 with a one-year-old infant in the right rear passenger side seat. 

Bellevue native Thomas Eaton, age 44, was headed northeast in a white 2023 Peterbilt 567. 

Ms. Gerich failed to yield to a stop sign and drove into the path of Eaton where she was then struck on her passenger side by Eaton. Both vehicles came to rest just off the southeast corner of the intersection just before 5 p.m..

Ms. Gerich was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The one-year-old infant in her vehicle was transported by North Central EMS to Fisher Titus hospital to be treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash. Mr. Eaton was wearing his seatbelt and sustained no injuries from the crash. Both involved vehicles had to be towed.
