TOLEDO, Ohio — Inmates being held at the Lucas County Jail aren't able to be released because although electricity is up, computers at the jail are down.
This means that even inmates eligible to be released can't get out of jail.
Bondsmen in town said they are frustrated that something as random as a power outage could affect so many people.
"Being that the court system goes by computers, you know it can be unfortunate that the wrong person might be released and then they don't have no way of putting data in the system," bondsman Tina Butts said.
Another issue with the system being down is the waiting game involved.
"Their families are calling us asking for assistance. Their family members, they either need to get back to work or they have children that's dependent on them and they can get out right now," bondsman Dorine Mosley said.
Sheriff John Tharp said his office is "uncomfortable" making any releases until the system is back up, unless a judge specifically orders the jail to do so.
