HURON CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Jared Anderson, a heavyweight boxer and Toledo native who goes by the nickname 'The Real Big Baby' was arrested on Feb. 29, 2024 after fleeing and eluding police officers in Huron Township, Michigan.
Anderson, 24, was arraigned in Wayne County Third Circuit Court for fleeing a police officer in the third degree.
Anderson was given a $10,000 personal bond, with the conditions that he can no longer drive, regardless of license status, with exception to traveling to and from court dates. Anderson faces felony charges, with the potential of five years in prison and a suspended license for one year.
In a post to Facebook, the Huron Township Police relayed the events that lead up to Anderson's arrest.
On Thursday, Feb 29 at around 1:30 p.m. officers with the Huron Township police attempted to stop Anderson in his vehicle on three separate occasions.
Police say officers spotted Anderson's orange Dodge Challenger traveling at 70 mph before accelerating to 91 mph and weaving in between lanes to pass other vehicles on southbound I-275.
The officers activated emergency lights and sirens before attempting to pull the vehicle over, but the vehicle continued to speed away, reaching over 130 mph. Anderson continued to weave throughout traffic at these speeds for over five miles.
The officer terminated pursuit of the vehicle and exited at southbound I-275 and Carleton Rockwood Road. Anderson had also taken that exit and was re-entering the highway northbound I-275 at Carleton Rockwood Road.
The police say, the officer attempted a second traffic stop on the vehicle on I-275 north.
Anderson proceeded to flee and elude officers each time an attempted stop was made until he eventually crashed into the median on Southbound I-275 and Huron River Drive. The vehicle again accelerated at speeds in excess of 130 mph for nearly a mile. Police say due to the vehicle weaving in and out of traffic, causing possible harm to the public’s safety, the pursuit was once again terminated.
Shortly after the second terminated pursuit, a 911 call was placed indicating that the orange Challenger was driving recklessly near Sibley Road and Vining Road. When Anderson spotted an officer approaching, he again accelerated away, re-entering I-275.
For a third time, the officer pursued the vehicle. The vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic. The officer terminated the pursuit a third time due to the high volume of traffic on the roadway.
An assisting officer then witnessed the vehicle cut across all three lanes of traffic before crashing into the center median.
Following the crash, Anderson was taken into custody.
His next court appearance will will be held on Wednesday, March 13 at the 34th District Court in Romulus, Michigan.
Anderson took to social media early Tuesday morning in response to his arrest:
This is the second time Anderson has been in trouble with the law since November.
Anderson was convicted of a misdemeanor gun charge in December as part of a plea deal he took following an arrest for drunken driving in November.
Anderson's next boxing match is slated for April 13 in Corpus Christi, Texas and will be televised on ESPN.
