TOLEDO, Ohio — March 27 is Jersey Mike's National Day of Giving and this year, the business has partnered with the Justice for Sierah Foundation.
Sierah Joughin was abducted and killed while riding her bike in 2016. Joughin was a student at the University of Toledo and would now be 28 years old.
"To really show her and how much she loved life and her family and her community as well, really makes it worth doing this," Sean Ross, general manager at Jersey Mike's on Alexis Road, said. "She was a part of our community, and she loved the community as much as we loved her."
Jersey Mike's will donate 100% of its sales at the four different local locations to the foundation in memory of Sierah Joughin. They hope to raise $8,000 per location. At Jersey Mike's on Alexis Road, you can see a purple sign hanging in the window that reads "Thank You. Sierah Strong."
"In the past we've had some other donations that we've gone to, but we wanted to go local this year," Ross said. "That really hits home for a lot of the people because they knew her, they know the family and to have something recognizable in the community to come out for and really support, really makes a difference."
Justice for Sierah gives school-based training and empowers others to be self-aware and practice self-defense through the Sierah Strong program.
