KENT, Ohio — A Kent State University student has died after falling from the roof of an apartment complex.

According to a police report provided to 3News from the Kent Police Department, the incident happened on the morning of Thursday, October 10.  Jayden Brieske, a 19-year-old Kent State sophomore, along with two friends were decided to "go exploring" on the roof of the University Inn on Water Street.

The group was seen on security camera footage entering the fourth floor laundry room and exiting through a rear door. According to a statement made to the police by one of Brieske's friends, the group tried to reach the roof by climbing up balconies on the side of the building.

The friend said they spent about 30 minutes on the roof before Brieske was separated from the rest of the group. When the group attempted to scale down the balconies to exit the roof, they saw Brieske on the ground and severely injured.

The friends called 911 and attempted to give aid to Brieske until emergency crews arrived.

Brieske's friends told police that they all had been drinking prior to the incident. No foul play is suspected and none of Brieske's friends were charged with any crimes.

Lieutenant Mike Lewis from the Kent Police Department released the following statement:

"We are grateful for the swift action of Jayden's fiends who immediately rendered aid, and quickly called 9-1-1 to get emergency medical treatment.  We have no reason to suspect foul play, although we believe alcohol did play a factor in this incident.  There are lessons to be learned from this tragedy, and there will be an appropriate time for those discussions.  We express our deepest sympathies to Jayden's family and his friends."

A GoFundMe has been established to help aid Brieske's family with funeral costs and returning his body to his home in Wisconsin. That page can be found HERE.

According to the description section of the GoFundMe page, Brieske spent two days in the trauma center in an unnamed hospital before he died from his injuries.
