MILLBURY, Ohio — Lake Elementary School will debut an inventive way to entice students to get lost in a novel later this week.
The "Inchy the Bookworm" book vending machine will be added to the Millbury school's atrium to bolster its reading program, the Lake Elementary PTO announced in a press release on Monday.
A ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony for the machine, funded by the PTO and Wood County-based construction company Rudolph Libbe Group, will be held at the school at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
The vending machine will be the first one in the school system and will be dedicated to Mrs. Andrea Brady, the late fourth-grade reading teacher, according to the PTO.
It will also "allow students to choose books that interest them to support the habit of reading for pleasure and to help build home libraries," according to the press release.
The vending machine will serve as a resource alongside the district's "Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports" reward system and encourage students to be excited about "book ownership, independent reading, and academic success."
Other school districts in northwest Ohio have also put book vending machines in their buildings, including in Maumee and Findlay.
