MILLBURY, Ohio — Lake High School's assistant principal and football head coach, Josh Andrews, has been relieved of his duties at the school "pending the outcome of an investigation into improper communications," according to a press release from Lake Local Schools Superintendent Jim Witt.
The release states that due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, the school district "will have no further comments on the matter at this time."
On Tuesday, WTOL 11 reported that Andrews was disciplined by the Ohio State Board of Education in 2011 for sending inappropriate text messages to students. His coaching was suspended as a result.
Witt told WTOL 11 he was not aware of the 2011 incident.
According to the Lake High School website, Andrews is also the assistant coach for the track team and in charge of the weight room in the winter and summer.
Defensive coordinator David Rymers will be the interim football head coach "moving forward," the release states.
Andrews was hired as the football head coach in 2019, after serving as a varsity assistant for six years. He was initially hired at Lake Local Schools in 2013.
According to a 2019 post on the official Lake Local Schools Facebook page, Andrews was a teacher and assistant coach at Swanton Schools prior to his position at Lake Local Schools.
