Lenawee Co. Sheriff: Crash kills 4 after driver runs stop sign

According to authorities, all occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. — Four people were killed in a crash in Lenawee County Tuesday after a driver failed to stop at a stop sign, authorities said.

According to a press release from the Lenawee County Sheriff's Office, investigators determined a Chevy Traverse was traveling southbound on Tipton Highway at approximately 6:43 p.m. A Jeep Cherokee was traveling westbound on Shepherd Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Tipton and Shepherd, striking the Traverse.

Both vehicles went off the roadway at the intersection and came to rest in a field.

The driver of the Traverse, an 83-year-old male, was killed in the crash, alongside his 79-year-old wife and 52-year-old daughter who were also passengers in the vehicle, authorities said.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was also killed in the crash. Authorities said in the release that alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, and all those involved appeared to have been wearing their seatbelts.

Authorities said they continue to investigate the crash.
