Find a cooling shelter in northwest Ohio during this week's ALERT DAY heat wave

Extreme heat with highs well into the middle to upper 90s is expected through Friday. The heat index could exceed 100 degrees or warmer most days of the week.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A heat wave has arrived in northwest Ohio.

Many places in Lucas County and around northwest Ohio are opening their doors to give you a spot to keep cool.

Starting Monday, northwest Ohio will be under an ALERT DAY designation. Extreme heat with highs well into the middle to upper 90s will last through the middle, if not the end of the week. A few days could possibly reach near-record highs in the upper 90s.

The National Weather Service has also issued a Heat Advisory and Excessive Heat Watch from Monday morning until Friday evening in the Toledo area.

Heat indexes will soar past 100 degrees. The "feels like" temperatures could exceed 100-105 degrees or warmer most days.

As many in the region struggle to stay cool and safe during the heat, officials have arranged for cooling centers to be open for extended hours to provide a safe break from the heat.
