TOLEDO (WTOL) - The Toledo Christmas Weed at the corner of Secor and Alexis is now a viral sensation spreading across the nation.
Starting out as just a little weed with a few decorations, it has grown to be something much more, spreading Christmas spirit to the Toledo area and its residents.
But just like any other Christmas tree or decorations, the weed can’t stay up forever. The area will be cleaned up on Jan. 1.
So 2 bestselling authors are making sure the weed stays immortalized with their new book entitled, “The Christmas Weed.”
When Nick Rokicki and Joe Kelley, the authors behind the Pete the Popcorn series, heard about the Christmas Weed, they knew it would be the subject of their next story.
“When I heard about The Christmas Weed on the news here in Florida, I knew this was a project we had to chase,” said Kelley. “The best stories are ones that take on a life of their own. The Christmas Weed and the community reaction to it proves that people want positive messages and that is what our line of books provide.”
You can pre-order the book through a GoFundMe page. For $25, readers will receive an autographed copy of the book and a printed dedication in the back of the book.
And for every 25 books sold, the authors will conduct one free school visit to a Toledo-area school next November and December.
“The Christmas Weed is such a simple and unique story that I believe will spark the Christmas Spirit in children around Toledo and beyond,” said Rokicki. “Our other books have proven that kids are eager to read books that they have a personal connection with. The Christmas Weed and the way Toledo has embraced it in such a charitable manner is nothing short of amazing, but not surprising for Toledo.”
